The debate workshop allows students to practice articulating their own interpretation of their attitudes and to publicly share arguments in favor of those attitudes. Young people learn about the importance of public speech and rhetorical abilities and the opportunities they have to offer, and how to structure an argument and a speech. Debate is also important because it gives young people an understanding of the importance of respecting the people they speak to and their arguments, persuading others by using arguments based on truth, and the necessity to solve conflicts through dialog.
