Description:

Ground leaves in rosette, whole, broadly lanceolate, on top round obtuse or sharply pointed, around the perimeter flat (10-) 15-25 (-30) mm wide. The leaves on the upper side are green, almost bare, and on the lower side are hairy, Stem erect with 1-3(-4) heads. Flowers white or open pink. The lower or middle leaves of this bloom are clearly edged, broadly egg-shaped or round-shaped under the top with a very short spike. Roška (achenia) almost naked.

Flowering season:

From June to August.

Habitat:

It grows predominantly in the cracks of the carbonate rocks of the mountain and subalpine belts.

General distribution:

Endemic of the Balkan Peninsula with the largest part of its distribution in the Dinarides.

Threat status:

The species is on the Red List of Flora of the FBiH (Đug et al., 2013) under the category EN – endangered species. Also, it is on the Red List of Flora RS (Anonymus, 2012).

Attractions:

Two subspecies were identified: subsp. autariatus and subsp. bertisceus Blečić & Mayer. The type subspecies is represented in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
