Description:

A brittle perennial with a thick, semi-woody gnarled rhizome that penetrates deep into the narrow crevices of limestone cliffs. Stems numerous, hanging (8-) 12-20 (-40) cm high, angular, folded. The leaves of sterile individuals are in tufts, ovate, pointed, heart-shaped, reniform at the base, with 2-3 teeth on both sides; petioles are about three times longer than the lamina. Flowers in apical racemes that are few-flowered: bracts 1-3, linear sickle or scaly. Corolla glabrous, light blue, cleaved up to a third into five triangular lobes, (14-) 16-20 (-22) mm long. The fruit is a twisted cocoon with many seeds, it opens on the side with 3-5 holes, and the very top of the fruit remains closed. The seeds are small, about 1 mm long and 0.3 mm wide.

Flowering season:

From June to August.

Habitat:

It grows in crevices of limestone rocks, mainly from the montane to subalpine zone.

General distribution:

It is an endemic species of the Dinarides.

Threat status:

The species is on the Red List of Flora of FBiH (Đug et al., 2013) under the category LC - species of least concern. It is also on the Red List of the flora of the RS (Anonymus, 2012).

Attractions:

Locus classicus is on Tisovica (Prenj pl.), (leg. 20.07. 1886, A. Degen).
