VIDEO Briefly about the implemented projects

At the final ceremony of the My Green Network project, young people from six B&H madrasas presented their projects through presentations, from the idea, through execution, to full implementation. Also, they showed how their projects will be useful and functional in local communities in the future. Here we briefly present eight projects that were implemented in Visoko, Sarajevo, Tuzla, Mostar, Cazin, and Travnik. Besides a brochure about these projects, a video about the projects themselves is also available.

With the 'Green Island' project, young people in Visoko are striving to contribute to the removal of pollution and encourage the practice of recycling. In addition to bins for separating plastic and tin waste in classrooms, they have also placed a recycling container in their school yard, which they decorated with various plants. Funds from the sale of seedlings of these plants and the recycling of plastic and tin waste will be directed into the student fund for excursions and other activities.

Sarajevo got a new resting place, but also a renewable energy source. The solar bench will be available to tourists and all citizens who visit the Madrasa yard, which is part of the tourist complex of the Gazi Husrev-beg Waqf. As part of another project called 'Let's Pedal to a Better Future', young people installed a bicycle parking stand in front of the Istiklal Mosque. Informational leaflets were distributed in Sarajevo mosques, and a thematic khutbah (sermon) was held, dedicated to raising awareness about the consequences of climate change.

The Municipality of Travnik, the utility company Bašbunar, and the Fishermen's Association from Travnik also joined the action of the Travnik Madrasa project team to remove pollution from the Lašva River. Within the 'Clean Lašva' project, young people also participated in the restocking of the river with fish, and organized the education of citizens and the signing of a petition in order to influence the reduction of the amount of waste in rivers.

Students will from now on be able to sort plastic and paper waste in their school in Cazin using appropriate bins, which will be collected by the utility company 'Čistoća', and by composting organic waste, they will improve the soil quality in the school flower garden and orchard. Also, with this project, their school will from now on have bicycle parking as well.

Realizing that one of the problems for citizens in Tuzla is the lack of parking spaces for bicycles, young people, as part of their first project called 'Let's Cycle', created a network of bicycle parking spaces or stands in front of 20 mosques in Tuzla, thus promoting mobile sustainability and ecological transport in the city center of Tuzla. Also, four bicycles were procured that will be at the disposal of Madrasa students in the yard of this school.

With the aim of improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, a second project, 'Let's shine so that our light does not harm others', was also implemented, through which all regular lightbulbs in the mosque of this school were replaced with LED lighting, alongside an educational campaign on saving energy by using this type of lighting.

Thanks to the project 'Voice of Endemics to the Rescue', visitors to the well-known tourist picnic area Rujište in Mostar will be able to learn about the biological diversity of this area through bilingual info boards, as well as valuable information about protected endemic plant species that are exposed to destruction.

Young people organized exhibitions, lectures, and published and distributed a special brochure educating citizens about these species, their importance for the environment and the ecosystem.
