B&H madrasas: The third module of education for young people has started

In madrasas throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, education in the field of media and AI literacy has continued, and following the implementation of the first two modules, the third module dedicated to critical thinking and digital citizenship has begun, which they are learning about alongside lecturers Muhamed Jusić, Zarfa Hrnjić Kuduzović, and Danijela Torbica.

During the first two modules, students learned how to distinguish facts from opinions, how to recognize disinformation, manipulative content, and unreliable sources of information, but also how social networks and algorithms that shape the content they consume daily function. Special attention was paid to understanding artificial intelligence, deepfake content, AI scams, and the ways modern technologies can influence the perception of reality and public opinion.

The third module brings an additional focus to the development of critical thinking and responsible action in the digital space. Through workshops, students will learn how to analyze information, recognize logical fallacies and emotional manipulation in arguments, but also how to understand their own prejudices and mental patterns that often make people susceptible to disinformation.

The topics of the third module include critical thinking as a tool for understanding the modern media space, recognizing harmful narratives and polarization in the digital environment, ways to counter hate speech and manipulative content, as well as issues of digital rights, responsibility, and digital health. A special segment relates to understanding the way social networks influence the formation of attitudes, the creation of divisions, and the shaping of public discourse.

The practical approach to work has proven to be one of the most important elements of the project, as students actively analyze the content they encounter daily through concrete examples from the media and social networks. In this way, topics such as disinformation, algorithms, polarization, or digital responsibility do not remain merely theoretical concepts, but become issues that young people recognize in their own experience and the digital environment in which they are growing up.

The workshops of the third module held so far have shown great interest among students, especially due to the interactive and practical work concept of Danijela Torbica, who was joined in the implementation of the workshops by Medina Mehmedović-Mulalić through conversation, analysis of real examples, and joint work with the students.

The project "AI and Media Literacy for the Future" is being implemented by the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the Directorate for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora and the Directorate for Education and Science of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community, in cooperation with the European Union and the European External Action Service (EEAS). It is a nine-month project with four modules, which will be implemented in all seven madrasas in Bosnia and Herzegovina and include more than 150 students, who will receive certificates for their acquired competencies upon completion of the program.
