Description:

Perennial plant, height 25-70 cm with woody lower part. The leaves are green, slightly shiny, spherical or linear, with very long petioles, 16-22 mm long and 2-4 mm wide, long. The stems have 3-6 pairs of leaves. The flower stalk is the same length as the calyx or slightly longer, with 10 nerves, often dark red. The petals are greenish-yellow on the upper side, and on the lower side they are greenish and slightly reddish, split up to 2/3 or more, the petals are long and narrow. The cocoons are elongated ovoid, with 6 backward bent teeth.

Flowering season:

In July and August.

Habitat:

It grows on karst rock fields and stony pastures of the sub-Mediterranean area.

General distribution:

It is an endemic species of the Dinarides.

Threat status:

The species is on the Red List of FBiH flora (Đug et al., 2013) under the category NT - almost endangered species. It is also on the Red List of the flora of the RS (Anonimus, 2012).

Attractions:

Locus classicus of the given species is on Biokovo

(Visiani, 1852).
